Update: we've just added 10 more tickets for departmental editors.
The next content clinic will be held on Monday 24 March:
- at DFT, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR
- 3 pm to 4 pm
If you’d like to attend, please email rosie.cowling@digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk to book tickets. Half the tickets are already gone, so be quick!
Come with questions
Please submit a question or comment when you book a place, or bring 1 with you. We’ll be answering these questions at the clinic. If you don’t bring a question with you, please try and write 1 on a post-it at the beginning of the clinic (it wouldn’t be a GDS gathering without post-its).
What we did last time
The first content clinic gave editors a chance to ask questions or raise comments on content or publishing. We offered editorial advice, for example “Is it okay to abbreviate measurement units?” Yes, sometimes, but write out any that are open to interpretation, like metre.
We also answered technical questions, for example “does archiving a page remove it from the site search?” No, it stays in Google and GOV.UK’s site searches, but Google will lower its ranking.
We shared tools, like FeedEx, which shows all the anonymous feedback we receive on any GOV.UK URL. At the moment you can only search 1 URL at a time, but we’re working on that. Soon you’ll be able to download the results as a CSV file and filter your results by date.
And we all learned a new word. Defra taught us all the verb ‘to pith’.
