This is a list of what we’ve been working on since the last update on 19 August 2016, and what we plan to do next. As usual we’ve divided the work up into lists of what we’ve been doing to keep GOV.UK running, and what we’re doing to make it better.
Running and supporting GOV.UK
To keep GOV.UK accurate, available and secure, to support government publishers and to meet the most pressing needs of end users, we’ve:
- updated the list of foreign secretaries
- made it possible to add external links to search results without needing a developer to deploy code changes
- retired Local DirectGov and we’re now managing local links from GOV.UK
- improved Signon cookie security for GOV.UK administrators
- finalised guidance to help government organisations manage their Whitehall Publisher content on GOV.UK
- been reviewing training for the GOV.UK team to improve the ways we manage government content requests from Zendesk
Improving GOV.UK
To improve GOV.UK in relation to the missions on our roadmap, we’ve:
- made it possible to see our new taxonomy categories at a glance in our taxonomy management tool
- started expanding the new draft taxonomy for content related to schools and colleges
- all finders are now live on the rebuilt Specialist Publisher
- hosted Ronni Taylor and Phil Hogg from HMRC for a 2-week secondment, collaborating on journeys for users registering for Self Assessment
- conducted research with users who've just started or are about to start a business, as part of the starting a business improvement project
Things we plan to do next
In the next 2 to 3 weeks we expect to:
- start to look at how we'll migrate related links (in the right hand column) on mainstream pages to the new Publishing API
- look at how we can bulk tag content from document collections and topics to the new taxonomy
- look at how to make managing local links sustainable in the long run, including investigating how to give Local Authorities access to do so again
- introduce a delete attachment feature for finder content
